Lipstick and Camoflage - tour header1

Security specialist Travis Blake’s undercover assignment should be easy. The former Navy SEAL has to protect Cassidy O’Neal from an elusive assassin. Yet, nothing about this case is simple. For Cassidy, it’s easier to believe in ghosts than to think she’s in danger. Despite a series of unusual happenings around her apartment that make her feel uneasy, she has no idea her hot new neighbor is far more than he seems. What starts off as simple flirtation quickly turns passionate. But, as danger intensifies, more than just their hearts are on the line.

FS_LipstickAndCamouflage_400x600 (1)Excerpt

Maybe Justin was the reason she was so jumpy lately. He’d not exactly left that

night with a smile and she’d wondered if he’d come back and try again.

Or, maybe it was something else, something unexplained. Ever since she’d gone to

Salem and took Mike Smith’s place as the lead cameraman in a ghost hunt, something

had been off kilter about her apartment and the building itself. Granted, they’d caught

some amazing EVPs that night, but the experienced investigators in her group, Jerome

and Sam, concluded what they’d caught on audio was residual and non-threatening.

If it wasn’t Justin Myers or a ghost, maybe it was that surveyor who’d staked out the

neighborhood. He’d claimed to be doing a favor for a friend looking to move into the

area and open a new business. She hadn’t believed him. That man had an aura about

him that was mysterious and dark, maybe dangerous. She’d run him off, and as far as

she knew, he’d not returned.

Frustrated, she snapped her book closed and set it aside, going over to check the

last load of laundry for the day. Being Friday, she’d worked a half day and had plans to

do laundry, eat rocky road ice cream for dinner, and continue reading Edmond’s tale of

revenge, justice, and romance until he skewed his best friend with a sword.

Okay, she’d read the book a couple of times. Next week, she’d open up The Three

Musketeers and have four book boyfriends, though her personal favorite was Aramis.

Yeah, like anything that exciting would happen to her, but one could dream a tale of

fiction even if her day job wasn’t exactly the same as a French sailor’s false

imprisonment or Musketeers saving a king from a treacherous cardinal.

Taking a moment to switch up her music, she chose her classic rock playlist and

increased the volume, singing, well, mostly humming until her favorite line, “We were

making it,” came out loud and clear.

As if it mattered how badly she was singing while pulling bras and panties out of the

dryer and tossing them into the hip-hugging basket on the floor beneath the machine.

Slamming the dryer door home and picking up her basket, she turned to go back to

where she’d been sitting when movement caught her eye. Whipping around, she saw a

tall, impressively built man standing in the doorway, as if he’d stepped right out of the

pages of one of her novels.

A heartbeat later, he came toward her, proving he was no figment of her active

imagination and seeming to get bigger with every step. Unsure what to do, Cassidy

threw her basket at him and rushed for the door, getting less than two feet before her

bare foot caught his boot and she went tumbling.

Certain she’d break something when she hit the stone floor, she tried to brace

herself for the impact…only she never hit. The man caught her, shifting her momentum

so that she landed right on top of him.

Breath caught, her headphones clattering to the floor, she would’ve scrambled to

her feet if it wasn’t for the fact that she could not move. Good God Almighty, he looked a

lot like Joe M. No, of course it wasn’t possible that an actor who made women

everywhere drool over werewolves and male strippers could be in a laundry room with

If that was the case, maybe she had knocked herself out and was dreaming about

her current book boyfriend, Edmond. His hands were incredibly big. She knew because

they were braced right on her ass. His chest was broad, muscles beneath his black tee

shirt strong as steel.

The beard that so reminded her of Joe’s, trimmed, defining a face that was

incredibly good looking and sexy, tempted her to trail a finger along his jaw to see if it

was scratchy or soft. His piercing amber eyes fitting to a lion’s captivated her. He was

looking right up at her, unapologetic, his grip strong, maybe there was even concern in

his eyes.

The only problem she could see at the moment was the bra on his head that

skewed her ability to make out the length of his shaggy sable-brown hair.

Wait! That leopard-print bra was hers!

“Darlin’, it doesn’t matter who Joe and Edmond are right now, if you keep grinding

your hips like that, I’m gonna make sure you forget anyone else’s name but mine,

francesAbout the author

My love for storytelling began in kindergarten when I created my first fictional characters.

Though I’d given them simple nicknames, I’d convinced my family that Red Henry and Green

Henry were identical twin brothers in my elementary school.

They were mischievous, rarely did their homework, had trouble with math and spelling,

experienced heartbreaking losses, and yes, they even had girlfriends!

It wasn’t until the Henry twins mysteriously moved to a different state that my family realized

that they were entirely fictitious and my mother suggested I write the stories down.

A few years later, I began to write, completing my first manuscript at age thirteen. I confess

the heroine was a cross between Nancy Drew and a contemporary Laura Ingalls Wilder, who

happened to be dating one of the Hardy Boys. But when I’d written ‘the end’ on the very last

page, I’d known I had more stories to tell. Of course life intervened, but whether I was in high

school, becoming part of a local theater and dance company, working as a Veterinary

Technician, earning a degree in History and Secondary Education, or teaching, I was always

writing and reading romances.

Finally, I met and married the love of my life and moved from Maryland to Massachusetts in

2001. Shortly after, I proudly joined Romance Writers of America and the New England

Chapter, and I’ve been writing faithfully ever since.

Review: The Ground Rules Undone by Roya Carmen

The Ground Rules is a series I’ve really enjoyed. The premise–while erotic and risque in nature–didn’t mean the entire series revolved around gratuitous sex scenes. While plenty of hot scenes appeared in each of the three books, what kept the stories going and the reader on the edge of their seat (at least this reader) was the emotional turmoil that Mirella experiences.

With each book the emotional stakes become higher and in the third and final book, The Ground Rules Undone, Mirella is in quite a turbulent situation. I don’t want to spoil anything for those who haven’t read the last book–or for anyone who haven’t started the series (although if you haven’t, what are you waiting for???).

This was the book where the line was finally drawn and big decisions by Mirella were to be made. Readers would find out if #TeamGabe or #TeamWeston would prevail. I like both characters and see what each man brought out in her, so if I were in her situation, I could never choose, I guess I’m #TeamGabeston 🙂 Even though it was painful to read, at times, I couldn’t put it down. I wanted to find out what Mirella was going to do and who she was going to choose, who was going to be her forever man. Of course, you’ll have to read the book to find that out!

I will say that by the end of book three I think all of the characters involved learned something about themselves and what being a part of the whole ground rules experiment fulfilled within each of them.  Although the road getting there was winding, full of heartaches and mistakes (kind of like in real life) everyone ends up with who I feel they belong with in the end.

I truly enjoyed this series and can’t wait to see what Roya Carmen comes out with next!

Here’s a bit more about The Ground Rules Undone

TGUThe Ground Rules were impossible to follow. It was hard not to become completely consumed by the beautiful and enigmatic Weston Hanson. The heart of a romantic was not fit for this kind of exchange. So, when it ended, I was shattered, but it was all for the better…or so we thought.

The Ground Rules were rewritten, and then bent. We lied to ourselves. We told ourselves we could handle this. Not a single one of us realized just how big this was…just how devastating it could become.

And now, there are no Rules. We are undone.

Lust… infatuation…blinds you. It can tear everything apart. But sometimes, life needs to be completely torn apart before it can be mended – not just cracked at the edges, but utterly shattered, before you can truly see the mess you’ve become.

I love them both, but I can’t have them both. While one pulls me in, the other pushes me away. And when both eventually open their hearts, I must make the hardest decision of my life.

Good with his handsBLURB

While Gabby is busy mapping out her career as a journalist, her father gets seriously injured. Upon hearing of his accident, Gabby drops everything, including her career plans, and heads home to her small, rural town of Clear Lake, but vows to return to Chicago as soon as her father is well.

On her first day back in her hometown she has a run-in with the town’s sexy new mechanic, Jake Harrison, and meeting him turns everything upside-down. Despite her wishes to remain single, she doesn’t see the harm in going on a few dates with him. Soon Jake is helping Gabby confront her past and bringing out a side of her that has remained hidden for years. Even though she wants to remain focused on her career and return to her city life, she begins to wonder if it’s possible to have it all—career, her dream life in Chicago, and Jake Harrison.

Gabby turned her back to him. He just wasn’t going to let up about taking her out, was he? She began scrubbing out the stainless steel sink as a means of distraction.

“Tomorrow’s Sunday. I didn’t think the shop was open,”

“It’s not, but sometimes when I have a backlog of work, like I do now, I go in when the shop is closed. I actually get a lot more done when there aren’t customers coming in and the phone’s not ringing off the hook.”

“Oh, well, thanks for having a look at my car on your day off. I’ll talk to you tomorrow, I guess. Have a good evening, Jake.”

“Hey,” he grabbed her by the shoulders and spun her around. “What’s wrong? I know you want to go out with me. Don’t pretend you haven’t felt this thing between us.”

She lowered her gaze to the floor. He was right. There was no denying the attraction she felt toward him and the chemistry between them seemed to be building. She didn’t want or need to date someone. Her life was fucked up enough at the moment and she didn’t need any additional complications right now.

“Walk me out?” Jake cupped her chin and brought her gaze to his.

Despite her reservations, she held his stare. Looking into his deep blue eyes she couldn’t find a way to say no. She let him take her by the hand and followed behind him outside. Once in the driveway she stood beside his vehicle.

“No wonder you like my dad’s truck so much. I think he wants to do something similar, but on a less grand scale. Did you restore it yourself?” She asked as she ran her hand along the orange and red flames painted on the hood. Even in the dark she could see the paint job was spectacular. The moonlight glinted off the chrome accents and highlighted the glossy black finish that was on the body of the truck.

“Guilty. I took my time with the restoration process and I worked on it for about three years. But, I didn’t bring you out here to talk about my truck.”

She looked up at him, intending to ask him just why he had asked her to come outside, but he was too fast for her. He slipped his hands around the back of her neck and titled her head back further. His mouth met hers with an almost crushing force. Jake slid his tongue between her parted lips, their tongues twined together until he broke their hold.

“God damn I’ve wanted to do that since I saw you standing in my shop today.”

He leaned down and kissed her again. His thumbs stroked the sensitive flesh along the sides of her neck. The light touch seemed innocent enough, but there was something about the way his calloused skin felt against her the smooth column of her neck. It awakened things in her.

Beneath the tight T-shirt, she felt her nipples harden. He must’ve felt the sensation because Jake moaned and pressed the solid wall of his chest against her. His hard body felt so good against hers. She ran her hands along his shoulders, down the center of his chest and stopped at his waist. Corded muscles rippled beneath her fingertips. He was massively built.

She wondered if he was as impressive below the belt. As if reading her mind, he ground his torso against her hip. He was huge. Gabby slid her hands up his torso until she reached his shoulders. Fisting the collar of his shirt, she wriggled against his thick erection. Her body ached to be filled. The lips of her sex were slick and swollen. Her nipples were painfully hard and her breathing pattern had become a rapid pant. Holy hell did she want this man.
